CCNP Exam Notes: Cisco Internetwork Troubleshooting
Published in Paperback by (September, 1999)
Authors: Kevin Hales, Todd Lammle, and Inc Cisco Systems
Average review score:

Could have been cut down a bit.
There's not alot of choices for study guides for this exam, and it will soon be rewritten when the new exams come out. But, for the price it was ok, and worth buying. It might save you a retake on a $100 exam. Too much repetition, some info is repeated word for word a few pages later. Sample test questions were poor. The protocol analyzer that he used to display frames made them difficult to read (Etherpeek), other places he used SnifferPro screen shots(better). The objectives were covered 'exactly', but don't expect this to be an exam question dump. You still have to read thru the usual fluff they use to fill books, but at least it's a little shorter. I also purchased the Syngress/Osborne book and will review it as well.

Chilton's Mazda: 323/Mx-3/626/Millenia/Protege 1990-98 Repair Manual (Chilton's Total Car Care Repair Manual)
Published in Paperback by Chilton/Haynes (October, 1998)
Authors: Np, Chilton Editors, the Nichols Editors, Nichols, Todd W. Stidham, and Chilton Editorial

Notice time
Since there are some big changes on models later than 1990, this book won't be very useful if you want to use it on a car earlier than 90. also, it is not quite easy to understand if you don't have any background knowledge on cars.

Citizens As Legislators: Direct Democracy in the United States (Parliaments and Legislatures Series)
Published in Paperback by Ohio State Univ Pr (Txt) (September, 1998)
Authors: Shaun Bowler, Todd Donovan, and Caroline Tolbert
Average review score:

Easy read, content lacking
From the outset, the book appeared exciting. However, from a layman's perspective, the book is of little value, except for a few charts about initiatives. Get the book for the charts, not the reading.

One year old book on AOL is already dated
This was a good book, I am sure, when it came out. Now there is a great package, AOL Press, that is not mentioned in the book. This software allows someone to use WYSIWYG for publishing your web page and it is free. I do not know if the software can be used on other sites for uploading web pages

Descubre 3D Studio Max 3
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall PTR (09 November, 2001)
Authors: Michael Todd Peterson and Duane Loose
Average review score:

You'll need to know complex spanish and association
This book is okay, if you know your spanish well enough to translate and associate it with the english used in the program. The book is all spanish including the illustration which I found to be a downside since the program is in english. The cd included is nice, but it does not show you how the object is created. In all it is a good reference book if you already know how to use the program and just want to brush up on details.

Desk (Chic Simple Components)
Published in Hardcover by Knopf (November, 1994)
Authors: Kim Johnson Gross, Jeff Stone, and Todd Lyon
Average review score:

Not a lot of substance but very entertainng
Like many of the other Chic Simple Books (I own 6 or 7 now - some wonderfully helpful, some just fun to look at) this one is filled with witty quotes, fashionable observations and pretty pictures. However, for those of you seeking advice on how to deal with the mess your desk may be, this is not the book for you. There are fine descriptions of the origin of the word "credenza", instructions on how to make your own paper, facts, figures, statistics & even a history of the evolution of paper. But in fact, no real instructions for dealing with the real issue: your desk. I love these books for their design quotient, the facts are interesting (reminding you to take special note when setting up a filing system in China, as they have no alphabet...this is important in my life-NOT), and the quotes add spice to my day, but if you are looking for real solutions you might be better off with the other condescending, no price tag is too high in the sake of style Diva, Martha, than with this book. The Chic Simple "Components" as they call them are attractive, and appeal to a rather impulsive urge, but are really just pretty ways to seperate you and your money. Try their books on clothing & wardrobes, they are VERY helpful.

Dry Skull Dreams
Published in Paperback by Pocket Books (March, 1995)
Authors: Michael Green, Rebecca Todd, and Michael Greene
Average review score:

Where's the end?!
I was intrigued by the cover of the book. "This might be something my son (age 11) would like..." I thought. The brief write-up on the back cover seemed interesting enough. It was used, and it was a buck. "What the heck?" Right? I'm still unsure.

I could tell immediately from the prologue that this was going to be unlike any other book I've ever read. And, most surely not anything for my son to read! I certainly had mixed feelings before even getting to the first chapter in the first part. I was rather repulsed by the basic content and storyline of the book. And yet, I found it difficult to put down - sort of a morbid curiosity, if you will. Obviously, that could be considered a thumbs up for Michael Green - keeping the attention of the reader.

In all honesty, I think I'll try to find "The Jimjams" at my local library or used book store simply because of Green's incredible descriptive ability. Not only that, there were some things in the book (whether they're fact or fiction doesn't matter) that really can make you wonder. For example, the discussion (monologue really) about how there are certain things on Earth for which "there's nothing else remotely like it around... [and] can easily survive in deep space." This guy definitely has a knack for words.

For the most part the "characters" (the evil Uncles and whatnot) were difficult to keep separate. They pretty much seemed one in the same. However, that wasn't my real "problem" with the book. My main beef about it is that there didn't seem to be a real ending to it. I was certainly left hanging on this one. It's as if the book simply weren't finished. Loose ends everywhere! There darn well better be a second part to this somewhere, 'cause I want to know: "Where's the end?!"

Also, I debated with myself whether to give the review 2 or 3 stars. I'm only going with three because of the Green's ability to induce such intense mental images.

Finding Facts Fast; How to Find Out What You Want to Know Immediately.
Published in Hardcover by William Morrow (September, 1972)
Author: Alden. Todd
Average review score:

Mostly outdated: however has some usefull information
For the most part Alden Todd's Finding Facts Fast; How to Find Out What You Want to Know Immediately is outdated. However, his remarks when it comes to planing for a project and note taking are still as important as when the book was initially published.
